College Audition Preparation
Wiremill Academy provides a comprehensive individualized college prep program for high school Juniors and Seniors as well as an a la carte college preparation option for those who are looking to major in theatre, musical theatre, and classical voice in the BFA and BA programs. This process can be intimidating, and our goal is to help demystify the process by simplifying, breaking it down, and providing a road map for families, beginning with ascertaining which programs best fit the needs and goals of the student.
Audition requirements will vary from school to school. We help our students choose audition material that reflects their individual strengths and artistic sensibilities, matching their unique qualities with music and dramatic selections that best highlight who they are as artists. Our full package college prep program includes 2 hours per week of private voice and acting lessons, private consultations with parents, and regular check-ins throughout the process. We create and direct the pre-screen video submissions, and can help guide and prep the students through the application and interview process. Details of both packages can be found below.
COLLEGE AUDITION PREP: FULL PACKAGE
This package includes:
Initial Consultation with students and parents (one initial consult, and regular check-ins as needed over the semester)
One hour per week private vocal training
One hour per week private acting training
Video pre-screen and submission recordings
Practice and advice on interviewing in person and online
Practice auditions before a group of professionals with feedback prior to auditioning.
Wiremill Academy has a 100% acceptance rate for musical theater, theater, and classical vocal performance majors. Our students have been accepted into such prestigious programs as Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Baldwin Wallace College, American University, Boston Conservatory of Music, Emerson College, Elon University, Ithaca College, University of Southern California, University of Michigan, Pace University, Alabama University, Syracuse University, New York University, Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Miami.

COLLEGE AUDITION PREP: A LA CARTE OPTIONS
Initial consultation: During the initial consultation we will go over the process from start to finish, outlining the different requirements for each school, discuss the schools and programs that might be right for you. We will discuss the material you have worked on and how we will go about choosing the material that you will present at your auditions. Our a la carte options are available for those who already have dance instruction, a private acting or vocal coach and need specific portions of the program. (You are not required to sign up for the entire package if you decide after the initial consultation that our program is not for you.)
$125.00 for the hour.
Acting/Monologue Coaching:
During these sessions we will choose material that reflects your unique sensibilities and resonates with the roles you see yourself being cast in. Choosing material is the first step in a successful audition. We will work with you and collaborate on the choices that make you feel 100% comfortable so that by the time you walk into that audition room or step before the virtual screen, you feel like you have been performing and living this character forever. Once the material is chosen, we begin to study, create, and practice those roles/characters for each option (Classical, contemporary, dramatic, comedic) required by the specific school you are auditioning for.
Private Vocal Coachings:
In Musical theatre today, singers need to be able to sing in a wide variety of styles, and a healthy solid technique is essential for a young singer to retain a safe and healthy voice regardless of what style they are singing. In these lessons we will review and choose material that highlights your range both theatrically and vocally, and that speaks to your artistic sensibilities and the roles you see yourself playing. We will work technically ensuring that you are prepared to sing the contemporary material that requires use of the belt/mix voice as well as the legit material required in some of the classic musical theatre repertoire. The goal in these lessons is to facilitate a seamless vocal connection from the chest through the middle and high voice, focusing on breath, placement, articulation, and resonance.
Private Dance Coaching:
Our dance staff will prepare your dance portion of the audition in whatever style dance discipline you are most comfortable with, or to the specific requirements of the schools you are auditioning for. Our staff will choreograph 30-60 seconds of dance at your ability and level, or help you navigate the required dance choreography required. Our staff will prepare you for the representative choreography that you will likely encounter at an in-person dance audition. Most colleges are looking to see who YOU are through your dance at whatever level you are currently.
Prescreen Audition Recordings:
The Prescreen video submissions are the first thing that the schools you are applying to will see. While they do not require or suggest students a to invest in expensive film or sound studios, you will want to look, sound, and feel that your submissions show you in your best light and that they represent who you are in these short 90 second clips. Most schools will have similar requirements that need to be met with the pre-screen video audition submissions, however there will be slight differences between the schools. We will rehearse and film your prescreen video submissions so that you feel confident that they represent you as you see yourself.
ALL AL LA CARTE PRIVATE COACHING SESSIONS (Outside the package) are $125.00 per hour.
